From the moment I heard your voice

I remembered for a moment what it felt like to shine.

The way you said my name,

Your voice rolling chills down my spine;

Avoidance creeping up the back of my neck,

But you said all the right things to make me stay.

I should’ve seen through the clouds of smoke,

But I was blinded by the magical things you would say.

False profits and false promises,

I can’t believe I fell for it,

When you said you really wanted this.

How did I fall for this again?

Now you’ve lost me,

And now I don’t really want this.

At least now I know the signs,

Of false profits with false promises.

One of the hardest lessons to learn is to hold people accountable for their actions versus their words. Someone can say all the right things but never commit with their actions. I had to learn to stop accepting the bare minimum; we all do. It is okay to want more for yourself and from your partner. It is okay to have needs. You are not a bother and you are not a burden. Choose the ones that choose you. Not only through words, but through their actions.
